Matting is the term used to describe the window-like material placed around an image within a frame. Its functional purpose is to serve as a spacer that allows the artwork to expand and contract with any changes in humidity and to separate the artwork from the glass or plexiglass with which it is covered. Its decorative purpose is apparent in that it comes in a variety of colors and finishes and is chosen to complement the color and design of the artwork. We use matboard that is acid-free and of archival quality, protecting your artwork from the damaging effects of time and pollutants.
